Therapy dogs comfort passengers at Istanbul Airport

Istanbul Airport introduces Therapy Dogs to comfort passengers

For many, air travel can be a source of anxiety. From navigating security lines to the fear of turbulence, the airport experience can often be overwhelming. Thankfully, one airport has adopted a unique and furry solution to combat pre-flight jitters – therapy dogs!

The Istanbul Airport has unveiled its ‘Therapy Dog Project’, where specially trained canine companions are proving to be effective stress-busters for passengers of all ages. Imagine the calming effect of petting a friendly dog after a long security check or during a flight delay. Therapy dogs offer a welcome dose of comfort and cuddles, helping passengers unwind and face their flights with a calmer demeanour.

According to reports, five specially trained therapy dogs have started their duties at Istanbul Airport as part of the pilot project. Accompanied by their trainers, these dogs offer support with their positive energy to passengers experiencing flight stress. During peak flight hours, the dogs are stationed at the outbound passenger area of the international terminal. The interaction can be as simple as petting the dog, receiving a gentle lick, or simply enjoying their calming presence.

As a pet-friendly airport, iGA Istanbul Airport currently has a total of four pet rooms to help pet parents travel with their furry friends. All of the pet rooms are equipped with food and litter as well as other things they might need during their travel.

Studies have shown that interacting with therapy dogs can significantly reduce stress levels. Stroking a dog lowers blood pressure and heart rate, while also promoting the release of feel-good hormones like oxytocin. For anxious flyers, this translates into a more relaxed and enjoyable airport experience.
